Just Moved? 5 Tips for Finding a New Pediatric Dentist for Your Kids

Taking good care of oral health is an important part of everyone’s life. This is why it’s crucial to find a good pediatric dentist who will help you secure your children’s oral health. If they start taking care of their teeth from an early age, they’re likely to enjoy a future of bright and healthy smiles. Have a look below at five tips that you can use to find a new pediatric dentist for your kids.

1. Search Online

The first stop for you is online, where you can search for a pediatric dentist near your location. Whether you’re among the 85% of Americans who moved within the same state or among the 15% who moved to a different state, this is the easiest solution. You will come across many different results, so make sure to check them to see whether there are any red flags. Some of these are misspelled words on the website and clickbait adverts. Don’t forget to read reviews and make sure that there are no glaring issues that you need to know about before you commit to a specific dentist.

2. Ask Around

If there are any people that you know in the area where you moved to, including coworkers, ask them for referrals. They may know a good pediatric dentist to whom they take their own children, so asking them could help you find a solution fast. Make sure to visit the dental offices of the dentists to whom you’re referred so that you can have a feel of them yourself. This may prove beneficial, as it will save you potential trouble. For instance, save the hassle of booking an appointment only to be disappointed by discovering a number of glaring issues that you could have seen during a pre-visit.

3. Check With the Community

Keep in mind that most good dentists will be involved with their respective communities. This includes sponsoring local sporting events and taking part in fundraisers, to name a few. If you visit any of these events or come across a poster advertising them, check to see if there are any pediatric dentists on the list whom you can check out. Don’t take too long to find a good dentist so that your kids join the 85% of children aged between two and 17 years who have visited their dentist in the past year.

4. Look Through Your Insurance Provider’s Directory

Another good place to look for pediatric dentists is in the directory of your insurance provider. There will be a list of all the dentists who accept your insurance provider so you can go through them to see if there are any with whom you’re comfortable taking your kids to see. Don’t be afraid to call a few and listen to them. This way, you don’t have to spend a lot of time visiting offices from which you can find out what you need easily over the phone.

5. Verify Their Professionalism

Finally, make sure to verify the credentials and professionalism of any dentist that you choose to work with. This could be seen from their communication style, among other things. Note that the average American citizen, in their lifetime, moves over 11 times. This may be enough times to give you an idea of how to settle in the new place you move to, but there are additional considerations to make when moving with kids. Finding good healthcare providers for them is one of the most important things that you can do, so do it right.

Take note of the suggestions above and try to ensure that the pediatric dentist you settle on ticks all the right boxes. Your child should not be afraid or uncomfortable paying them a visit when they need to do so. If they are, then you will likely have to look for another dentist for them.
